Ferry Sewol disaster – Recommendations on movies related to the Ferry Sewol disaster

    Ferry Sewol disaster

The Ferry Sewol accident occurred on Apr. 16, 2014, when the ferry Ferry Sewol sank near Jindo County, South Korea. 304 passengers were killed or went missing in the accident.

A victim of a Ferry Sewol accident

At that time, Koreans were in great sadness. There is a reason why Koreans were even more shocked. This was because there were 325 high school students on the ship going on a group trip. The Sewol ferry was carrying 325 second-year students from Ansan Danwon High School who went on a school trip to Jeju Island, and the damage to the young students was great.

The joint investigation headquarters of the prosecution and police announced in October 2014 that the cause of the sinking of the Sewol was overloaded with cargo, poor tightness, excessive hull expansion, and poor driving of the helmsman. Since then, the Sewol Shipbuilding Committee was launched in March 2017 when the Special Act on the Sewol Hull Investigation Committee was agreed upon, which led to the salvage of the Sewol and the recovery and search of the unexplored.

A Ferry Sewol eventually pulled out of the deep sea

The accident has caused great social shock and sadness in South Korea, and discussions continue to take safety measures along with investigations into the cause and coping process of the accident.

If you want to understand the Ferry Sewol accident, I recommend watching the movies below.

This is a drama film about a birthday party for the families of victims of a Sewol disaster.

    Intention (그날, 바다), 2018

It’s a documentary film. It deals with the sinking of the Sewol on April 16, 2014, and tracks the time of the accident and the course of the Sewol through scientific analysis, data collection, and four years of careful investigation to reveal the unidentified facts of the day.

Taekwondo – Korean traditional martial arts

    1. Master the Basics

    Grooming Postures and Foot Stages:

The foundation of Taekwondo lies in mastering basic postures and footstacks. Practice maintaining a stable and balanced posture, ensuring proper alignment of your feet and body. Practice flexible movements and postures, and build agility and speed through fast-transitioning footstalk training.

    Perfect Skills:

Pay close attention to the execution of basic skills such as punches, kicks, blocks, strikes. Practice each skill over and over again while working on precision, power, and control. It’s a good idea to master the skills while making sure your movements are sharp and efficient.

    Embrace discipline and consistency:

Consistent practice is essential to master Taekwondo. Follow a regular training session, a regular practice routine. Consistency is a key way to hone a skill and build muscle memory by making it easy and instinctive to perform.

    2. Develop Physical Fitness

    Strength and Conditioning:

Taekwondo requires a high level of physical health, including strength, endurance, and flexibility. Include strength exercises such as push-ups, squats, and lunge to build muscle strength and strength. Exercise to improve endurance and physical strength, which are essential for maintaining strength during sparring sessions, is also helpful.

Incorporate stretching exercises into your daily routine to improve flexibility and enhance range of motion. Focus on stretching major muscle groups, particularly those involved in kicking and striking movements, such as the hamstrings, quadriceps, and hip flexors.

    Balance and Coordination:

Develop balance and coordination through specific drills and exercises targeting proprioception and spatial awareness. Practice standing on one leg or performing balance exercises on unstable surfaces to challenge your balance and improve stability. Enhancing balance and coordination will not only improve your performance in Taekwondo but also reduce the risk of injury.

    3. Cultivate Mental Strength

    Focus and Concentration:

Taekwondo is a virtue where mental concentration is an essential virtue. Train your mind to stay where it is and where it is, while staying focused, blocking distractions, and maintaining clarity of thought during training and games. Practice mindfulness skills, such as deep breathing and visualization, to improve your concentration and mental resilience.

Taekwondo training can be physically and mentally challenging, and it requires patience and resilience when faced with difficulties. Accept frustration as an opportunity to grow and learn, and develop a mindset of determination and resilience. Maintain a positive attitude despite adversity, and maintain motivation and commitment to your goals.

    Sportsmanship and Respect:

Taekwondo is not just about physical skills; it also emphasizes values such as sportsmanship, respect, and integrity. Treat your training partner and opponent with respect and courtesy regardless of their skill level or background. It is important to respect your opponent and have a spirit of camaraderie in a confrontation.

    How to cook Bulgogi (불고기)

Bulgogi – One of the most famous Korean foods

For those looking to explore Korean cuisine in an easy and accessible way, I highly recommend trying out ‘Bulgogi.’ Bulgogi is one of Korea’s most famous meat dishes, featuring thinly sliced beef marinated in a savory-sweet sauce and grilled to perfection. Making bulgogi at home is surprisingly simple and incredibly rewarding.

    •  How to cook Bulgogi

To put it very simply, it’s as follows.

To start, thinly slice your choice of beef.

Popular cuts include sirloin or tenderloin. Then, prepare the marinade by combining soy sauce, sugar, minced garlic, minced green onions, sesame oil, and black pepper in a bowl.

Mix these ingredients thoroughly until the sugar is dissolved. Next, add the sliced beef to the marinade, ensuring that each piece is well coated.

Let the beef marinate for at least 30 minutes to an hour to allow the flavors to penetrate the meat

Once the beef has marinated, heat a grill or grill pan over medium heat and lightly grease it with oil.

Place the marinated beef onto the grill, making sure not to overcrowd the pan.

Cook the beef for about 3-5 minutes on each side, flipping occasionally, until it is cooked through and caramelized on the edges.

    AND

Refer to the recipe for jongwon PAIK’s YouTube channel, the most famous Korean restaurant businessman. It explains in detail that even a foreigner can easily make it!

(It’s a channel that offers various subtitles)

    •  How to eat Bulgogi

Then, how do Koreans eat this?

Bulgogi can be enjoyed in many different ways. You can put meat on rice and mix it together in a bowl, or boil it in a pot and eat it in the form of a soup with vegetables and noodles. You can eat it wrapped in raw vegetables such as lettuce in the Korean style ‘sam'(쌈) method. Bulgogi with ssamjang is another good dish for its attractiveness. With some simple ingredients and simple cooking skills, you can bring delicious Korean flavors to your own kitchen.

So why don’t you try bulgogi? You can give it a try and enjoy it!

If you enjoy watching Korean dramas or movies, you’ve heard “진짜”(jin jja) a lot.

That’s why there are many people who know the word even if it’s not Korean.

“진짜”(jin jja) is simply a very diverse Korean language. In the dictionary sense, it means “true, not fake.” But in everyday language, it’s sometimes used differently depending on subtle nuances.

So I summarized how the Korean word “진짜”(jin jja) which is commonly used, is used in each situation.

    how to use 진짜(jinjja)

There can be so many different situations. See the example below for emotional use.
      When I’m angry ▶ (angry)  “아…진짜!!”

      When I’m happy ▶ (laughing) “아~진짜..”

      When I’m sad ▶ (with a gloomy face) “아..진짜…”

      When you’re surprised ▶ (surprised) “아 진짜!!”

    3. When you sympathize with the other person –
      ex)
You: I was so angry about that
      Me: “진짜…!! (…you must have done that/Omitted)
When the other person is true, they use “진짜?” but they also use “진짜…” in a sympathetic sense. This is the difference in nuance of the situation.

You can see that the same words are used in a variety of idioms.

If you’ve watched a lot of Korean dramas or movies, you’ll probably understand this situational meaning.
